Anita Knew with certitude from an early age that she was going to be an artist. Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, she won a citywide full scholarship to the school of her choice, The Philadelphia College of Art (University of the Arts), where she graduated as an illustration and a painting major. Later she attended the Graduate school of Painting at Pratt Institute in New York City. She has worked as an illustrator and a teacher. But for more than forty years her passion has been portraying the color and light of the ocean and river towns of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She has studied and painted with some of the most renowned American artists including T.M Nicholas, Kevin McPherson, Will Barnett, and Irby Brown. Her journey has now brought her to the wonderful art community of New Hope, where she draws great inspiration from the past tradition of Pennsylvania Impressionists. Anita specializes in painting landscapes in the outdoors, or plein air painting. Her work has received recognition and national press. A few of her honors include two Gold Medals from The National Arts Club NYC, the Grumbacher Gold Medal for excellence in oil color, and four awards from the Phillip's Mill Juried Art exhibition. |
