Conservation framing is designed to provide the best possible protection for a framed work, slowing or preventing deterioration. Conservation framing techniques should be used when framing anything considered an original, a limited edition, something of historical, collectible, or sentimental value. All materials used in the framing process must meet exacting standards. Conservation framing has come a long way in the past couple of decades. Previously museum quality framing was only available at the museum or curatorial level. Today, we can provide museum quality protection, at a more economical level, to help protect your valued treasures.
Improper framing techniques may cause serious damage to the piece that is being framed. Commonly, cardboard is used as a backing, and is highly acidic. Also, tapes such as scotch tape is often improperly used to mount works, it is highly acidic and irreversible. Custom framing offers almost unlimited choices of frames and styles to match almost any piece or décor. Trained design specialist at Radclyffe Gallery will be able to guide you through the selection process.
