 Emily Thompson received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Aside from her successful career as an award winning illustrator and graphic designer she is also an award winning fine artist. Her vibrant works illustrate the best qualities of abstract painting, that "there are no restrictions". She shows us that often the most perfect beauty is found in the simplicity of design and harmony of color. Her graphic design background has heightened her appreciation for both, and her expert utilization of them is essential to the dynamic of her work. She uses acrylics and oils initially for the base of her paintings, and then adds more layers of oils, followed by a selection of graphite, pastel, oil sticks, wax, papers, dry pigments or powders to create depth and texture. She finds inspiration in vintage fabrics, art and design. Her pieces are the result of multiple, experimental phases of creation, from observing her surroundings to the final touches of paint. Thompson's work is part of many private collections throughout New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and has been exhibited at the Woodmere Museum, the Philadelphia Sketch Club and the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie Mansion. She's been part of many group shows, two person and solo exhibits as well as many of the areas juried shows including Phillips Mill, Artsbridge Works on Paper and most recently the Galaxy Art Show 2008 where she was the recipient of the best oil painting award. |
