Michael Hampton Carson is inspired by his travels and draws from his most memorable impressions for his landscape drawings. A graduate of Colorado State with a degree in Fine Art, Carson focuses on the chalk pastel medium for his work. With a very strong sense of color and light, he strives to capture the earth's energy as well as geography. click on thumbnail to load larger image
In his own words, "There is an unforeseen energy element on the surface of the earth and I try to achieve that feeling in the glow of my pastel technique. I feel the pastel medium best suits this task. My favorite time of day is dawn and a good deal of my subject matter reflects this." The process in which Michael begins each drawing starts well before the chalk touches the paper. Each piece begins with a photograph, which originates from the artist's land hunting trips around the Four Corners area or from other impressions he collects for this purpose. Transforming the natural state of the land into his vibrant renderings is Carson's combined effort of intense color and balanced compositions. Michael currently lives in Colorado and has both corporate and private collectors and the country. |
